The Himalayas , 'home of the snows', extends from Assam in eastern India to west of Afghanistan . These are the highest and youngest mountains in the world, a region steeped with religious and cultural tradition, and a great diversity of peoples. Nowhere is the more apparent than in The kingdom of Nepal , mecca for mountaineers and explorers for over 100 years. In remote mountain villages live people whose lives have not changed in generations, yet they show a trust in foreigners made possible by their secure position as the only country in the world which has not been ruled by a foreign power.
Nepal offers an exceptional variety of ethnic groups and cultures, of landscape, which changes form tropical jungle to high glacial peaks within a distance of 150km. In Nepal you will discover picturesque villages, green terraced landscapes and majestic snow-capped mountains. You may follow in the footsteps of great explorers. Most trails are set between 300 and 5000 m, passing through settlements where you will catch a glimpse of the Nepalese way of life, traditional hospitality and culture; and between the settlements a vast wilderness awaits. |
